GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
Growth and Development education will be taking place in the fall for middle school students and in the spring for grades 4 & 5. Ninth graders receive lessons as part of their CHOICES class each quarter. Cañon City Schools has worked diligently to align each lesson with the Colorado Comprehensive Health Standards. We feel that this curriculum is an important part of your child’s normal and healthy growth, and encourage you to discuss the program with him/her to answer his/her questions.
Cañon City Schools acknowledges that parents/guardians are the primary sexuality educators for their child/children and we are committed to partnering with you to provide supplementary resources to support you in this role. Parents/guardians have the option of exempting their child from any portion of Growth and Development instruction if it is in conflict with conscience, moral, or religious beliefs. OptOut forms will be sent home at least one week prior to instruction. Students who are excused will be assigned an alternative learning opportunity during the applicable time.
